A Visit from the Government and Goats!

It's one thing for me to say VOH does good work, but it's always nice when someone else sees it for themselves and makes comments on what they observe. This happened to us at VOH Mwanza last month.

The Prime Minister of Tanzania likes to give vulnerable children something to celebrate on a special holiday once a year. The government selects different centers or children’s homes and prepare gifts for the children.  This year VOH Mwanza was one of the centers selected!

The PM sent the District Commissioner to come on her behalf to give the gifts to the children. They brought 80 kilograms of rice, 20 liters of cooking oil, lots of potatoes and bananas, and 2 live goats. A few hours later .... they had a big barbeque and feast for the children (not so festive for the poor goats)!

The children invited some of their schoolmates to join them. They ate to their heart's content and had so much fun. Plus, they had lots of food supplies left over for the next month or two.

The event was covered by local media. In her interview, the District Commissioner commented how impressed she was with VOH.

She loved the environment, how child-friendly and safe it was and thought the playgrounds for the children were great. She was impressed with how the children welcomed her warmly and was touched that VOH was caring for children with disabilities.

She also talked about how she found the children happy, well-dressed, well-mannered and noted how well the children were taken care of. She summarized it all by saying, “I can see how the children have hope” and promised to come again.

She ended her TV interview, promoting VOH Mwanza as a great place for vulnerable children and encouraged others in the local area to give donations because it is really helping children in need.

Although this is a short update this month, I wanted to share this with you, as the DC sees lots of charity work in the region, and she doesn't give compliments if she doesn't mean them. It's just nice, first of all that the government of Tanzania cares enough to give to children in need and secondly, that they can see how children are being cared for and how the work of VOH is bringing hope to the children.

Thought this would be nice to share with you!
